Swift-phonics was founded as a sustainable solution to Singapore's lack of fertile land and natural resources to grow food and flowering plants. Due to scarcity of natural resources like soil and water which makes it hard to farm and grow plants, Singapore heavily relied on importing food products from other countries. These imported food products were not enough to achieve zero hunger and sustainable agriculture of the country. As a result, an alternative and sustainable solution to farming and growing plants is needed to solve Singapore's biggest food and agriculture problem which is achieved via hydroponics.

Hydroponics itself is a farming technique that does not require natural precipitation or fertile land to grow plants. Instead of using land or soil, plants are grown using mineral nutrient solutions in an aqueous solvent. These plants may grow with only their roots exposed to the nutritious liquid, which may physically be supported by an inert medium such as perlite and gravel.

Hydroponics by Swift-phonics are heavily focused on using the Wick and Nutrient film technique (NFT) systems. The Wick system is a simple system that take advantage of the action of wicking to feed a water-based nutrient solution to the roots of plants. While in the NFT system, plant roots are suspended above a stream of continuously flowing nutrient solution that provides the plants with all the water, nutrients, and oxygen they need to sustain rapid, healthy plant growth.

The company mainly provides the hydroponic farming systems, NFT for both residential and commercial purposes and farming products such as vegetables and fruits. The NFT and farming products are the main source of revenue of the company. After the initial growth, the company provides the fertilisers, hobby kits, seeds, hydroponics nutrients and accessories ,growing light, media and meters. The company also provides the flowers from hydroponic farming to meet the customer’s needs. Moreover, the company has plans to serve basic hydroponic trainings, farming tours, designs and advices for installation hydroponic systems or gardens in households.

The company is partnering with investors for capital and expertise, but is also competing with similar hydroponic companies in both Singapore and globally due to the massive growth of vertical farming and gradually replacing with hydroponics farming.
